On Thursday May 1st, the 7th grade Social Studies class traveled to St. Paul to attend the Festival of Nations. The Festival is a gathering of different ethnicities and cultures throughout the world. The students were able to experience and interact with these cultures through exhibits, performances, an international bazaar and an ethnic cafe. Tyler B. has created a very humorous cartoon of his day at the Festival:

One of the highlights of the day was the ethnic cafe. The students and I were able to try new and interesting foods from around the world. Below are some recordings of our samplings.

If you liked this place you would rather stay for a day than a year, but if you hated it you would rather stay for a year than a day. Where is this place?

When this book first came out it was read only by a handful of very rich people. Now almost everyone has a copy and reads it frequently. But you cannot buy it in a bookstore or borrow it from a library. What is it?

Brochure Update

I hope your weekend is off to a good start. Just a reminder – Monday will be the last day to work on your brochure (including those that attended the choir trip). The assignments will be submitted to me on Tuesday.

On a side note, I ran across this video yesterday. I thought it was amazing, let me know what you think of it.

Yeah Toast!!

As promised, here is the “Yeah Toast” song performed by Heywood Banks on the Bob and Tom show. In case you were wondering, I sing this song every time I pop some bread into the toaster. My life would be complete if someone would write a song about Honey Bunches of Oats, anyone feel up to the challenge?

It’s not too early to begin studying for your Social 7 final test. Thankfully, Yakko from the Animaniacs has developed an educational song to help you remember the “Nations of the World.”
